It's that time again, as people debate over who's number one, two or whatever; and Bowl bids are handed out. By now, if you're reading this you know who's going where. But I'll tell you how (i think) it will shake out...
Jan. 1 Rose Pasadena, Calif. ABC 5 p.m. Southern Cal. 21 vs. Michigan 20
I'm not picking USC because I think they're sweet, but because a Lloyd Carr team that thinks they got screwed, probably isn't going to be prepared to fight. After all, Carr went on his tv show blasting Urban Meyer for 'Lobbying' for Florida. Get over it skip, and your players better not have your attitude, or it'l be a tough night in Pasadena.
Jan. 1 Fiesta Glendale, Ariz. FOX 8 p.m. Oklahoma 42 vs. Boise State 24
Boise State is a nice story. Little-league program gets to play with the big boys. But thats really the only thing nice about this game. Boise can score, but I don't think they're ready for prime time just yet. Going up agains the Big 12 and almost one-loss OK will be a test for the smurf-turfers.
Jan. 2 Orange Miami, Fla. FOX 8 p.m. Wake Forest 14 vs. Louisville 42
Wake is another 'nice' story from the very weak ACC. Louisville is battle-tested and have shown to be strong on both sides of the ball. This will be over at the half, don't you worry.
Jan. 3 Sugar New Orleans, La. FOX 8 p.m. LSU 52 vs. Notre Dame 17
This is my game of the week because it will show (again) why Notre Dame is overrated, overhyped and perennially non-deserving of BCS recognition. I don't even know how or why they're in this game. Maybe all schools should be independent and play the service academies and get publicity. The two times ND played anyone worth a damn, they got smoked on national TV. The Sugar Bowl won't be any different.
If ND thought Michigan and USC were rough and tough, wait til they go down to New Orleans and face LSU indoors in a practical home game. This will be ugly, and I can't wait.
Jan. 8 BCS Title Glendale, Ariz. FOX 8 p.m. Ohio State 35 vs. Florida 45
In a shootout the Gators take the spoils, and the BCS National Championship. I think OSU is good and all, but I'm still not 100% sold on them. It's fact that most of these teams would get handled mightily in the SEC and that hardiness will help the Gators. I feel bad for the SEC really, having so many good teams that beat up on one-another its time the conference got what it deserves with Florida playing for it all.
Dec. 31 MPC Computers Boise, Idaho ESPN 7:30 p.m. Nevada10 vs. Miami (Fla.) 35
Larry Coker packs a trophy in his bag on the way out the door as coach of the Hurricanes. This game is a fitting end as it shows exactly how much damage he's single-handedly done to this program in 5+ seasons at the helm. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
