Missed It By THAT Much...

The fallout from the brawl in Coral Gables a week ago is still settling. Fans want the coaches head, media types think the punishment is too lenient from the 'Canes standpoint, and Miami is being played the scapegoat for a fight that was started by hooliganism on FIU's part; but thats another conversation.

The next step in getting back to 'normalcy' is playing a game. And with 12 Hurricane players suspended the Saturday afternoon game at Duke actually meant something for once. The Blue Devils held the 'Canes to 30 yards rushing on 26 carries. Yes, I said 30, and STILL managed to lose the game to a shorthanded Miami bunch.

Now with that all said it should be noted that Miami can STILL play in an ACC title game and win the conference. Would that scenario be enough to save Coker's job? I don't know, but it sure as hell would be interesting to watch.

This season now is what the players make of it. Not the coaches, fans media or anyone else. The Hurricanes have officially hit rock bottom in the Coker era, and now we get to watch them either get up like men, or sit back and let the world beat them down.

What In The....?

I'm no advertising executive, or marketing major or anything like that but I THINK i know what good and bad is as far as a hockey sweater is concerned. And I was DAMN sure that the new look of the Buffalo Sabres was as bad as it could possibly get.

But this ugly poo-rag sweater is outselling every other NHL jersey at the NHL.com store as if they weren't even on the racks. For some reason hockey fans LIKE this crap. Just another reason I suppose why hockey and in particular the NHL may never fully become 'mainstream'.

This May Be the Nail in the Coffin...

For coach Larry Coker; or Choker, or Stroker. Insert your Coach Coker jokes here... Ok, done? Good now lets get down to business.

As we all know by now, the Hurricanes hosted Florida International on Saturday night and they got into a big-ass brawl, blah blah blah.

Thats shitty, I know but I'm not here to rip on players for brawling on the field... I'm here to rip on the piece of shit that recruited the brawlers in the first place.

Since he took over for Butch Davis Larry Coker has done one thing right: Stay out of the 2001 teams way as they won a National Title. Anyone could have coached that team to victory, hell Paris Hilton while texting on her sidekick could have at least got the team TO the Rose Bowl against Nebraska. And since Coker did it with Butch Davis' recruits I shall give him 0 credit for any of that. Or losing to OSU in the Fiesta Bowl the next year.

Are you shocked I didn't blame it on Coker? You shouldn't be. Those were Butch Davis' guys too, and sometimes you just plain get beat.

But since then each season under Coker has been a little bit worse than the last, culminating in a poor showing in a loss versus Florida State to open the year, then getting their asses handed to them by Louisville. Yeah, they used to hang 49's on teams like Louisville.

But now it seems as if the direction of the program is in the toilet, and hopefully so will Larry Coker's job.

Not So Fast My Friend...

So the Detroit Tigers are World Series bound. Who would have thought that a team that a few years ago being the laughing-stock of baseball would be in the Fall Classic. It's a wonderful story don't get me wrong, but I have one HUGE problem with it all.

Being a New York sports fan stuck living in Detroit isn't so bad. Well, it is but I have a high tolerance for nonsense. And my latest bit of nonsense I've noticed is with Detroit sports fans. Honestly, the only good sports fan in this town is a Lions fan. I say this because a Lions fan is there when they're 5-11 or 11-5, no matter what.

But since I've lived here and seen the resurgence of the Wings, Pistons and finally Tigers; it seems as if that loyalty is reserved only for the Lions. And of course the Universities but thats a different discussion.

Its so damn funny how a couple years back you couldn't give away Tigers tickets, unless of course the Yankees were in town. Now everyone and their brother is trying to hop on the bandwagon before it passes them by.

Tigers fans should look at how its REALLY done around the nation, and be there through the thin AND thick, like Lions fans. Thankfully this nonsense will all be over, very soon...
